Understanding Recreational Programs

When it comes to enjoying your free time, I have never been an expert. I have always found it hard to keep up with different ways to enjoy my time away from work, but about a year ago I realized that there were a lot of resources close to home that I could take advantage of. It was incredible to see how much my local recreation center offered, along with how many motor sports businesses were in close proximity to my home. This blog is all about understanding recreational programs, signing up for the best ones, and saving a lot of time and money along the way.

Get Hooked! Puerto Rican Fishing Facts To Know Before Your Angling Excursion

When you love to fish, there are few things more rewarding than sinking a hook and line into distant waters, which is why taking a trip outside of the continental US for fishing is such an attractive getaway for anglers. If you like to travel for fishing, Puerto Rico is one spot on the map you do not want to miss. Here, fishing is good no matter the season, Blue Marlin are some of the most prized fishing targets, and there are some pretty awesome fishing charters available in just about every major city. Grab your favorite rods and reels, pack a bag, and check out these fishing facts to know about Puerto Rico before you go:

You will not have to travel too far off shore to hit the good spots.

One of the greatest things about fishing in Puerto Rico is that you can fish right off the shore and still gain access to the biggest fish. There are deep trenches around the land mass that are natural habitats for bigger fish species and they consistently come close to the shore to feed, which makes catching them easy. Even if you do pay for a charter and head off the shore, you can hit the deeper areas without traveling a great distance. For example, just a mile off of the San Juan shore is an ocean floor drop of about 600 feet.

You will have access to a wide range of fish species.

Puerto Rico is often talked about among anglers because of blue marlin fish, but this is not the only prized fish species to target when you get to the area. A few of the other most commonly sought after fish species in Puerto Rico include:

  • mackerel
  • tuna
  • sailfish
  • tarpon
  • dolphin fish
  • snook
  • spadefish

There are numerous lake fishing opportunities in Puerto Rico.

If sea fishing is not your thing or you want another experience to add to your angling list, keep in mind there are also lakes throughout Puerto Rico where you can fish. Sport fishing by the locals is not so much a thing, so you can find some pretty impressive lakes that are filled with favorite lake-favorite fish species like largemouth bass and are easily accessible and pretty empty.  So before you head out for your fishing adventure to this area, make sure you pack along some of your favorite bass lures and artificial baits.
